Category archives: Change starts in your head

Capture the power that lifts you to the next level.

I believe without a doubt God’s will for you is momentum. This power will lift you easily to accomplish and succeed easier and easier. He wants you to let go of whatever makes you stop. His best is for you and I to grow, increase, and be more than what we are today.

The most often used word when anyone talks about winning is MOMENTUM

Why? Because it’s s key to a team or individual’s success. Those little successes building one upon another lead to the best results.

Here is how a coach would define why their team is winning more:

“We’ve got momentum. We’ve won nine games in a row. We expect to win every game we play now. The players are more confident when they shoot and consequently make more shots.”

Momentum is powerful. It is energy that is directed and focused. This energy produces results, which then produce bigger results.

It produces confidence. Each little win produces more confidence and energy. This produces more success.

Do not discount the power of FOCUSED ENERGY: Momentum.

If you miss the wave of momentum then you have to conjure up the energy to accomplish something all over again but you have to start from the bottom each time.

But momentum allows you to go on the next step/level/success with a huge boost of power and you are able to go even higher with less effort.

To accomplish anything you have to build focused energy in that direction. The first domino can knock over a second domino twice it’s size. And then the that one can knock over the next twice it’s size.

This is why MOMENTUM is so powerful.

Here’s why I write to you. I want you to capture and increase momentum in your life.

ps. The secret is to be the change you want to see in the other person. You have to go first and expect nothing in return.

Outsmart your Brain for True Success

The brain is POWERFUL.  And it will do it’s best to keep you from succeeding.  It will trip you up and scream at you to turn back. There is danger ahead.  Because as  you know, every reward is associated with RISK. And the brain’s only job is to keep you alive and away from danger (RISK). So it works very hard to keep you safe. In your comfort zone.
But what if your goals are not in your current comfort zone? Then you have to leave and enter new uncharted territory. Your brain HATES that.

To achieve what you have never done, you have to leave the safety of the shore and venture into unknown territory and face the real possibility of failure. Success lives right next door to Failure.

So to get to success, (REWARD)  you have to pass thru the unknown territory where there is the very real possibility of failure. (RISK)
Here is how to outsmart your brain:
Use associations to help you link powerful emotions to the results you want to achieve.
Meditate and visualize what, who, how you want to be. Create the person/situation very firmly in your mind as your GOAL.
Seriously, take a moment to clearly see and understand who and what you want to achieve. What does it look like? Who are you in this new situation? What are you doing? How does your life look?
If you are going to all this trouble to create a life for yourself, you might as well take a good look at it.
Then think of that goal you have imagined as a destination on a map, and it is in the heart of uncharted territory. In the middle of the unknown.

Your lives at the heart of uncharted territory

Pin it. See it. Now label all of the territory around it as the Success/Failure zone. Because when you step off into it, you could fail. But you could also succeed.

In fact, this unknown territory is the only place where you can actually succeed, when you are surrounded by thousands of ways to fail.
As you make preparations for your journey and even start walking, associate the fear/anxiety that shows up as an indicator that you have committed yourself to getting there. It is screaming for you to turn back, but you are going anyway, right into the unknown territory.
LINK the fear/anxiety emotion as the space between you and your Goal.
If the emotion shows up then be happy, because you know you are on the right track, because whatever you are doing or thinking is moving you closer to your goal, and your goal is in the heart of unfamiliar territory.
Learning and growth only happens when you are attempting things you have never done before and do not know how to do and could very likely fail. This is the PANIC ZONE. This is where true growth happens and new skill sets are learned.
These are THE ONLY conditions for success. In the middle of the unknown and huge risk of failure. This is also the territory where fear , panic, anxiety hangs out.
Link the powerful emotion to leaving your status quo, leaving behind the known and comfortable, and stretching yourself, doing what you don’t know how to do and moving into the success/failure zone.
The fear is you LEARNING and SUCCEEDING.
If you are comfortable, then you have quit and turned back to base camp: for what you do know.
Welcome the Fear, it is your sure thing indicator that you are on the right path. Your goal is in front of you still. If you feel it, then you are still moving forward.

You are here

Life does not come with a set of instructions (except the Bible, pretty good stuff there).

Our life is a sum total of every single decision we have made, each little action or in-action,  has lead us to right here.  What I wish I knew now that I didn’t know then.  Good and bad, where we are, what we have, the relationships we have, are all a result of the choices we make.

To be fair, I have made a few good ones.  Like marrying my husband, THAT was a good decision.  But I have made some financial mistakes too. We can’t go back in time to gain that lost time or recover from a bad investment decision. We can only go forward from here and make the best choices we can.

There is a saying I like “Lord, Can I have back the money I have lost? I promise not to piss it away this time.”

If you would like your life and financial path to go a different way, one where you had the Abundant Life we were promised, you have come to the right place.

I am going to explore why we lack, how to recognize and stop the behaviors and habits that created this mess.  How to enter rest and a place of plenty.

The foundational principle that needs to guide all decisions is Delayed Gratification.

The distance between where we are and where we want to be is filled with self discipline and delayed gratification.

Eating what you want when you want it, spending what you want when you want it will leave you FAT and BROKE.  The same principle guides our life and the decisions /choices we make.

The best way to predict your future is to create it.  Let’s start now.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10;10

A different perspective.

If we could just get a small glimpse of God and what He wants for us, I know we would never think the same way again. Do you remember the Bible story you may have heard as a child in Sunday school, when Elisha had an angry king after him?(from 2 Kings 6:13-16)

Elisha was in his house sleeping and in the early dawn the king showed up with his army and surrounded his house. His servant, looked outside, and freaked out. He woke Elisha, panicked about their imminent massacre. But Elisha was very calm, and wasn’t worried at all. There were more with us than against us. He simply asked that the servant could see what he saw. And then God allowed him to see:

“O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.”

Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.I love this. I can’t see everything, none of us can. I have no idea what is out there. But what a comfort to know that God is out there and He is fighting for us.

He loves us, and He has plans to prosper us, for a life of joy and abundance. It just requires belief in the idea that there is a God, and just like a real father, he will fight for you, he sees you, he knows you, and he loves you. We can see the problems clearly enough, but we have difficulty seeing God and his provision. If we focus just on what we see, we may freak out just a little.

He loves us, no behavior modification needed. He has an eternal life planned for us in his presence. Now what little thing was bothering you today? I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” (Ephesians 1:17-19a.)

Where are You Going?

Where are you going?

If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else. ~Lawrence J. Peter

Good stuff takes time. If you haven’t achieved financial control of your life yet, don’t worry. Things take time. The first step is to change anything is to change your thinking. No one changes their behavior because “they should”. Permanent and lasting change happens only when you are a true believer. Only when you are sold out to an idea does lasting change stick.

Begin with the end in mind. Envision your future clearly. Look down the road…where are you going? Do you like the future you are creating today?  You will end up exactly where you are steering yourself, look ahead down your road a bit. How much money will you need?  Who will you snuggle with at night? Will your kids want to come home and see you? Will you own your stuff or will it own you?  What kind of health and body will you have? How happy will you be? Eventually, you will end up smack dab in the middle of your future. Make sure it’s a good one.

Love your family with enthusiasm, so that those bonds grow stronger over time. Build up your nest egg diligently, so you become more secure over time. Reduce debt, so you owe less and become more free over time. Adopt better health habits, so you become stronger, healthier, and have more energy over time. Love God, so you will know him and grow closer to him over time. And when the time does come, it is not such a big step all.
